Portrait of Marion Saussier

‘It’s by wandering around the Manufacture, observing the light hands of the Compagnons in action, their historic techniques, the reactions of the material at work and the tools, that I discover the fractures, the puddles, the characters, the filings, the nuggets and the hearts of the spoons.

My memories of the workshop now allow me to pay tribute to the exceptional and unique expertise of this company that I love so much. I’m keen to honour the men who cast and shape bronze. Their talent and the love they have for their craft highlight the beauty of the tools they make to mark noble materials as well as the most unusual ones.’

Marion Saussier

A passion for bronze

The daughter of a bookbinder and gilder and the niece of a framer, Marion Saussier has always been surrounded by crafts and creativity. Throughout her life, she has trained in techniques such as bookbinding, gilding, framing, ceramics, sculpture and, of course, bronze work.

When her mother died, Marion decided to take over the reins of the family business, which was then run by her father-in-law, Pascal Alivon. Fascinated by this priceless heritage, she set herself the mission of passing on the heritage of this exceptional know-how, while bringing it up to date with the times, through innovation and her own aesthetic vision of the object.

In 2018 she created Maison Alivon Éditions, a creative studio within the manufacture, which reinvents the residual material known as ‘workshop memories’ from the manufacturing process of marking tools into precious art objects.

Marion Saussier is the winner of the Prix Coup de Cœur ELLE des Artisanes 2023 in the Heritage category.
